RCSI Medical University of Bahrain Recognised for Environmental Excellence at Al Bilad Shield Awards

On September 21st, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) – Medical University of Bahrain was honoured with the Environmental Excellence Award at the 2025 Al Bilad Shield Corporate Social Responsibility Awards. The event, held in Manama, was attended by His Excellency Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, alongside prominent figures from government and the private sector.

The award recognises RCSI Bahrain's outstanding commitment to sustainability and its impactful environmental initiatives. This accolade underscores the vital role that educational institutions can play in fostering environmental stewardship and contributing to a greener future. The university's win serves as a prime example of how the private sector can actively support Bahrain's national development goals and promote a culture of sustainability.

On this occasion, Professor Sameer Otoom, President of RCSI Medical University of Bahrain, expressed his pride, stating: “It is an honour for us to receive the Environmental Excellence Award from Al Bilad newspaper, as this recognition reflects the University’s steadfast commitment to sustainability and our responsibility towards future generations. At the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) – Medical University of Bahrain, we firmly believe that academic excellence must go hand in hand with environmental stewardship. This award provides us with additional motivation to further strengthen our initiatives in support of Bahrain’s vision for a greener, sustainable future.”

Mr Mohamed Abdulla, Head of Estates and Support Services, affirmed: “This achievement is the result of continuous collective efforts to instil a culture of sustainability both within and beyond our campus. We take pride in contributing to this national accomplishment, reaffirming our commitment to expanding our environmental initiatives in line with the Kingdom of Bahrain’s aspirations and its vision for a brighter and more sustainable future.”

In his address, His Excellency Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah highlighted that corporate social responsibility is a key component of the Kingdom of Bahrain's comprehensive development, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and guided by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He emphasised that integrating social responsibility into corporate governance turns private sector initiatives into tangible and sustainable results.
