Why Graduate Entry Medicine at RCSI Dublin?

RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences was the first medical school in the Republic of Ireland to introduce a Graduate Entry Medicine (GEM) programme. This four-year course enables students from a range of undergraduate backgrounds to study medicine. Refer to the entry requirements to see if you are eligible for this programme

The GEM programme combines a foundation in biomedical sciences with extensive clinical training across RCSI’s affiliated teaching hospitals. From the beginning, students are immersed in a patient-centred, case-based curriculum that integrates medical theory with practical experience.

The curriculum is designed to prepare graduates for the future of healthcare in a global, digital and climate-focused world. The programme is delivered in RCSI’s healthcare education facilities in Dublin. Teaching is provided by RCSI academics, clinicians and researchers, primarily in small groups or through interactive large group sessions.

Clinical skills training begins from the first day of the programme, with simulated patient sessions a weekly feature of the curriculum. Students have opportunities to build their careers through research, overseas clinical electives and a four-week sub-internship in final year, working as a resident-in-training in a hospital in Ireland, the United States or Canada.
